He also tweeted bipartisan support for the move, saying: “I thank these Senators and @SenatorHick & @SenatorBennet for their support. By including #SAFEBanking in the final NDAA, we can protect our financial system, reduce public safety risks and better support small and minority businesses.”

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) and former Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), who did not support marijuana legalization while in office, joined the Coalition for Cannabis Policy, Education and Regulation as co-chairs.

Democratic Senate candidate Charles Booker of Kentucky tweeted: “When I get to the Senate, I will be submitting legislation that will eventually legalize marijuana and calling it “Gatewood Galbraith Justice” and Therapeutic Act.”

Kentucky Democratic congressional candidate William Compton tweeted: “In Congress, I fully support legalizing marijuana at the federal level. Kentucky’s cash crop has always been tobacco, why can’t we add marijuana to create more income?”

The Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, who hosted an event on the Cannabis Revenue Funding Grant Program, said: “The #R3 plan invests 25% of adult cannabis tax revenue back into communities suffering from historic divestments. Our goal is to invest in these communities by investing in to repair the damage, which can only be done in partnership with these communities.”
